Dorothy “Dotty” (Lanza) Nielson of Somerville, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at her home on August 5, 2021. Beloved mother of Maryann, Kathy, Michael, Karen and Richard. Cherished grandmother of eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. And a devoted sister to her twin Rose Lewis. She opened her home to anyone that needed a place to stay. No words can describe how much Dotty will be missed by her family and friends.

Candidates vying to be the next mayor of Somerville discussed issues of interest to older adults at a special forum on August 5, 2021.

The City of Somerville Elections Department is hiring polling place workers for the municipal elections on September 14 and November 2, 2021.
Polling place workers will be paid $200 per day and work from 6:30 a.m. until shortly after the polls close at 8:00 p.m., with a two-hour break. You must be a registered Massachusetts voter to work at a polling place. No prior experience necessary.

The Somerville Renters’ Committee and the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS) will hold three virtual forums in August to discuss housing issues in the City of Somerville, MA. Events will start with the Somerville Mayoral Candidates on Housing, on Sunday, August 8, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, which will be open to the public. The Mayoral forum will be streamed on Zoom with simultaneous translation from English into Portuguese, Spanish, Haitian Creole.
