2.7 Mile Road Race, Children's "Fun Run" to be Held in Conjunction with Mayor's Fitness Challenge; Proceeds to Benefit Somerville Recreation Foundation, Youth Athletics.

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced that the 2nd annual Shape Up Somerville Road Race will be held on Sunday, May 2nd beginning at 10:30 a.m. with half-mile children's fun run for youth ages 12 years and younger. Following the children's race, a 2.7 mile walk will begin at 10:45, with the race beginning at 11:00 a.m. Both the children's and adult races will begin at the Somerville High School/City Hall Concourse, 81 Highland Ave., and will conclude with a community BBQ.



"Last year we had a fantastic turnout, and a great event, but we want to make this annual road race a growing tradition. I hope everyone will come out and help us make this year's race a success," Mayor Curtatone said. "Our first annual Fitness Challenge has already been a great success since its kickoff a few weeks ago, and I'm eager to join the more than 500 participants in that Challenge for the race."

The adult race will begin on the SHS/City Hall Concourse, travel down Highland Avenue to Cedar Street, along Broadway to Medford Street, and finish along Medford Street to Walnut Street, and back along Highland Avenue to the Concourse.

Registration fee is $5 for the children's fun run, and $20 for adults, and includes a t-shirt, All-America City water bottle, and "Mayor's Fitness Buck," at the finish line, and a family BBQ.
