100 Regional Finalists Vie for State Science Fair Qualification

Somerville High School will be the site of the 2012 Region IV Science Fair this Saturday, March 24, 2012, as 150 students from throughout the region vie for a chance to advance to the Massachusetts State Science Fair, slated for May 3-5, 2012 at MIT.  Thirty students from Somerville High School are among the regional finalists.

“This is always an exciting time of year for students, teachers, and other science enthusiasts across the state,” commented Region IV Science Fair Director, Sebastian (Sibby) LaGambina.  “Students have been working on their projects for months.  Every year I’m impressed with the exceptional quality of the projects at the Regional Fair, and the level of commitment that these students have obviously put into their projects.  I’m thrilled to be a part of this event, and to be serving as this year’s Director of the Region IV Fair.”

Judging of student projects will be held Saturday morning.  Judges are comprised of scientists from the local scientific community including institutions such as Tufts University, Biogen IDEC and Genzyme.  Doors open to the general public at 1:00 p.m., following the formal judging process.  All exhibits will be on display from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Somerville High School Atrium and Fieldhouse.
