Please join the City of Somerville’s Department of Racial and Social Justice, RESPOND, the Somerville Commission for Women, and friends for a light reception and the unveiling of the Somerville Community Clothesline Project. The Clothesline Project is a visual display of violence statistics that often go ignored.

This display is hosted as part of an ongoing partnership between the City of Somerville and RESPOND, New England’s first domestic violence prevention agency, based in Somerville. The shirts were created during the community-wide domestic violence vigil, held on October 30, to commemorate victims of abuse and to celebrate the resilience of survivors. Vigil participants were asked: “who do you dedicate this shirt to?” and “what is a message you would like to share with other survivors?” Their creative responses became the shirts on display at the Central Library.
