MAPS will attend candlelight vigils in honor of victims of domestic violence in Somerville on October 13 at Davis Square. The MAPS Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program offers free, confidential, and personalized support, crisis intervention, safety planning, information, guided referrals, medical and legal advocacy, and related services to victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Somerville Songwriter Sessions at the Armory Cafe presents a live, in-person concert with singer/songwriters Tim Foley, Doug Kwartler and Sam Bayer on Saturday, November 5. The concert will feature a solo set by each artist, followed by a round robin song swap. The show begins at 7:30 p.m., and there is a suggested donation of $15. The Growing Center’s Harvest Festival, planned for Sunday, October 16, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. (rain date Sunday, October 23), welcomes area residents young and old for a celebration of the culmination and fruits of the growing season. Art, music, social justice, and nature – all found in the lovely garden setting of the Growing Center. Celebrate autumn and the harvest season with nature art activities and live music. Enter a Harvest Raffle to take home one of a number of Somerville-grown gifts, such as local maple syrup, dried herbs, a fairy house kit, or hand decorated wreath. This event is free and open to all. The city is developing a Pollinator Action Plan to identify ways to create the best habitat for local pollinators and wildlife. Registration for Somerville Youth Hockey Learn to Skate/Learn to Play Hockey is open. All sessions take place at either Veterans or Founders rinks in Somerville. Beginner classes are geared towards kids 3-9 who have never skated nor played hockey before. There’s also a new Advanced option for kids aged 9 and older who are ready for a more fast-paced introduction to the fundamentals of hockey and skating.
