Dear Residents,

Here is an update on this year’s budget process including how to participate in the Budget Public Hearing on Wednesday, as well as ways to get engaged in Racial and Social Justice efforts.

You’ll also find a link to an important discussion with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, D.A. Rachael Rollins, and other regional leaders about Systemic Racism, where do we go from here, and how can everyone be an ally. It’s well worth watching.

  • Read about the $1.6M in proposed new racial and social justice investments: The City and Schools have long been prioritizing a broad range of equity investments. In response to calls for an increased focus on racial and social justice in the wake of the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, Tony McDade, and many others, the Schools are proposing roughly $600,000 in new equity-focused investments, and the City is proposing a new $1 million investment, funded in part by reducing the Police Department budget. Read more here.
  • Read the Reddit AMA on the FY21 Budget: Going into this year’s budget season, we got a lot of questions from residents about how the budget process works. To help residents better understand the process and how to participate, our Budget Manager held a live “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) event on Reddit. You can view the questions and answers that came up here.
