On March 1, 1945, in the twilight of World War II in Europe, four-term elected President Franklin Delano Roosevelt made his last speech before Congress. The President, a polio victim, spoke officially for the first time while seated, setting aside his heavy leg braces. He would succumb to the disease within the following month.

Who thought this thing up anyway? Spring forward, fall back. Or is that fall forward, spring back? The only way we can ever be sure is if we’re early or late for church Sunday morning, or whatever it is you do on Sunday morning.

To be fair, there’s usually someone around smart enough to know the difference, if it isn’t you yourself.

Carmen Polito, February 26, 6:54 p.m., arrested at Somerville Ave. on warrant charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.

Vladimir Lora, of 449 Canal St., February 28, 3:42 a.m., arrested at Tower St. on warrant charges of marked lanes violation, failure to notify RMV of name or address change, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor second offense, speeding, and operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan spoke to attendees at the Teen Dating Violence Awareness Training.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, in partnership with Reach Beyond Domestic Violence and Respond, INC., hosted a Teen Dating Violence Training last week to help after school providers, school personnel and school resource officers identify the warning signs of teen dating violence. The training, organized during the Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, is part of the District Attorney’s initiative to increase education about healthy relationships and to raise awareness about available resources.

UPDATE: the 14-year-old boy was found. 

The Somerville Police Department is searching for a missing 14-year-old boy, a city spokesperson said Sunday night. The boy was last seen on School Street around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Resources that make communities more dementia friendly were the topic of a recent discussion between (from right) Alan Lappas and Emily Lane of Neville Place Assisted Living and Maryellen McEleney and Nancy Quigg-Gonsalves from the Cambridge Connections Memory Café. Neville Place recently renewed its grand sponsorship of the memory café.

For the second year in a row, Neville Place Assisted Living is grand sponsor for a free monthly social gathering geared toward people with dementia or memory loss.

Neville Place is sponsoring the Cambridge Connections Memory Café, which is a joint effort of Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) and the Cambridge Council on Aging. Open to people with memory loss and their care partners, the café is a welcoming space that features activities everyone can enjoy, explained SCES Director of Outreach and Community Relations Nathan Lamb.
