Medford Police Department is investigating a report that a Medford woman in her 20s was physically assaulted in the area of Main Street and Royall Street while out on an evening walk around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 2.

Starting July 5, applications can be submitted through the city’s Citizenserve online portal

Beginning July 5, the City of Somerville Planning, Preservation, and Zoning (PPZ) Division will accept all new applications for permits for the Historic Preservation Commission, Planning Board, and Zoning Board of Appeals through the city’s Citizenserve Portal, the same online portal currently used for building permits and licensing by the city’s Inspectional Services Department (ISD).

Here we are at the beginning of another summer. In the old days we did day camps and playground activities. One year we built a cool buggy. That was a fun summer back around 1967. Summers mean no school and fun.

MassDOT’s Squires Bridge work to take place in September 

The MBTA and MassDOT today announced an update to MassDOT’s Squires Bridge construction and associated service changes. 

The Healey-Driscoll Administration is rescheduling MassDOT repair work on the Squires Bridge until September 2023. As such, the previously announced 42-day suspension of Green Line service between Lechmere and Union Square Stations from July 18-August 28 will not take place. The Squires Bridge crosses over tracks near Union Square Station.

Licensing of tobacco sales in the City of Somerville is being proposed by the Board of Health.

At the latest Somerville Board of Health meeting on June 29, the Board, Brian Green, Karin Carroll, and Bonny Carroll opened the webinar with a proposal to limit tobacco access in the city of Somerville. According to them, tobacco sellers all around the city could benefit, by making their product less accessible, therefore more valuable.

An informational meeting was held to update the public on the status of Winter Hill School.

Somerville Public Schools recently held an informational meeting for families and students regarding updates about the Winter Hill School. In attendance was Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, incoming Superintendent Dr. Rubén Carmona, Principal Courtney Gosselin, the Director of Infrastructure and Asset Management Richard Raiche, and various members of the public.

Above and Beyond: The Remarkable Life of Somerville Olympian Phil Reavis, an exhibit at the Somerville Museum, will hold its closing reception, Saturday, July 8, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. Above and Beyond showcases the life of Phil Reavis, a Somerville native, Olympic athlete, long-time educator, and one of the first people of color in Somerville with a public space named in his honor. Reavis broke records as high jumper, appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine, coached Vietnam’s 1964 Olympic track and field team, and enjoyed a long career as a teacher, coach, and musician. A world traveler, Reavis now divides his time between Somerville and Macau, China. The Somerville High School’s athletic field will be named The Philip Reavis, Sr. Field.
