Due to inclement weather, two outdoor city events are canceled tonight, July 25:

• The planned SomerMovie Fest showing of “Sleepless in Seattle” at Conway Park is canceled. Please join us next Thursday, August 1, for the free, outdoor showing of “Philadelphia” at Powderhouse Park at dusk.

Chief Fire Engineer urges residents to protect homes against summer fires with easy precautions.

Chief Fire Engineer Kevin Kelleher and the Somerville Fire Department remind all residents that with higher temperatures and dry weather comes the increased risk for fire hazards, and ask residents to take necessary preventive steps in your home to decrease this risk.

Residents or community members who have been displaced or otherwise affected by this morning’s 7-alarm fire on Calvin Street are asked to meet  immediately at the Albert F. Argenziano School (290 Washington Street). Members of the Somerville Police and Fire Departments, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), and the American Red Cross will be on site to provide important information, and to work with you to ensure the safety and security of you and your family members affected by the fire.

A fire broke out around 6 a.m. this morning in the back of one home on Calvin Street . Six homes were damaged by the fire , 2 of the homes are a total loss.

Up to 50 people were displaced by the fire. Fire is under investigation.

A Jubilee celebrating 25 years of devoted service was held in honor of Sister Kateri at the Jugan Convent last week.
