Last week we welcomed one of the country’s largest clean energy and tech incubators, Greentown Labs, to its new home in our city. Greentown is moving from its current location in the Boston Innovation District not to just another innovation center or district, but to the Innovation City, that’s us. Somerville prides itself on innovation, creativity and originality and companies that hold these values are taking note and moving here, and bringing good jobs with them.

Chief Fire Engineer Kevin Kelleher and the Somerville Fire Department remind all residents that with higher temperatures and dry weather comes the increased risk for fire hazards, and ask residents to take necessary preventive steps in your home to decrease this risk.

Residents or community members who have been displaced or otherwise affected by this morning’s 7-alarm fire on Calvin Street are asked to meet  immediately at the Albert F. Argenziano School (290 Washington Street). Members of the Somerville Police and Fire Departments, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), and the American Red Cross will be on site to provide important information, and to work with you to ensure the safety and security of you and your family members affected by the fire.

If you have questions or are having trouble locating a family member, please call 311.

Seven-alarm fire on Calvin St.

A fire broke out around 6 a.m. this morning in the back of one home on Calvin Street . Six homes were damaged by the fire , 2 of the homes are a total loss.

Up to 50 people were displaced by the fire. Fire is under investigation.
