Another year passes and we pause at this time to congratulate and honor the hard working students who achieved their goal of successfully completing their courses of studies at their respective high schools and colleges.

It takes a lot of dedication and commitment to follow through to completion in this world, which is filled with so many challenges and distractions. It is no small feat to take one’s education to the limit, and these moments represent important milestones along the path to success in life.

A half dozen of the top athletes in the U.S. will join two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Record-holder Meseret Defar of Ethiopia, 2008 Olympic silver medalist Nick Willis of New Zealand, and 2015 IAAF World Champion Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa at Dilboy Memorial Stadium to compete in the adidas Boost Boston Games, organizers have announced.

Join the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission and East Somerville Main Streets on Sunday, June 12, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., for a walking tour entitled, “Evolving Face of East Somerville: From Horse Drawn Trolleys to Transit Stations.” Ed Gordon, President of the New England Chapter of the Victorian Society in America, will lead a lively walking tour exploring changes in the historic buildings and landscape of this area.  Meet at the East Branch Library, 115 Broadway, and end at Assembly Row with complimentary refreshments. Join this year’s TASTE OF SOMERVILLE, one of the most impressive food festivals in Greater Boston, held in the heart of Davis Square! This outdoor extravaganza is scheduled from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 (with rain dates on 6/15, 6/22). This outdoor extravaganza features over 60 notable restaurants, breweries, caterers, and farmers! Yum!

Danyell Hardy, of 60 Westville St., Dorchester, May 31, 5:23 p.m., arrested at Middlesex Ave. on a charge of shoplifting by concealing merchandise and on warrant charges of assault and battery, assault and battery on a family or household member, and resisting arrest.

Dmitri Edmond, of 129 Sherwoodglen, Somersworth, NH, June 1, 4:56 p.m., arrested at Broadway on a charge of fugitive from justice and on a warrant charge of assault and battery on a police officer.

Last year, 59 Somerville High School students set a new Guinness World Record for the “most arm-linked people to stand-up simultaneously,” earning the school its first record.

The City of Somerville’s SomerVIVA program is bringing back its Haiti and Brazil Hit the Ville! Festival for its third year on Sunday, July 24, 2016, and we need performers! The Festival celebrates Haitian and Brazilian food, culture, and entertainment, and performers of all varieties who celebrate and exhibit one or both of those cultures are invited to apply for limited spots available during the three hour festival in Union Square. A committee will select acts for limited time spots. The Festival is free to attendees, and includes dozens of local vendors, artists, and restaurants. Several thousand attendees are expected for this year’s festival.
