Somerville’s Martin Luther King holiday schedule

The annual MLK Day Celebration will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20 at the East Somerville Community School, 50 Cross St. All city offices and public schools will be closed for MLK Day. Parking meters/resident parking won’t be enforced on Monday. Trash/recycling pickup will be on a one-day delay for the rest of the week.

The Somerville Human Rights Commission will hold a drive to benefit Project Soup during the event. Attendees are invited to bring toiletries such as shampoo, toilet paper, and soap. For more event details, visit http://bit.ly/MLKsomerville.

    I encourage all people to spend a few moments reflecting on the life of Doctor King. He was a great man who gave his life in the pursuit of human rights and civil rights for all people, not just African Americans.

    Doctor King may be physically gone, but what he stood for and believed in will last forever.
