Somerville Media Center (SMC) hosted its 2019 SMC Honors Gala at Arts At The Armory on Friday, March 8. This night recognized the best facets of community-made media shared in greater Somerville.

SMC considers its local TV shows, podcasts, indie films and radio shows the heart and soul of community media and they invited their award nominees, friends, neighbors, community partners and members to join in to celebrate these many achievements.

In addition to honoring directors, producers, show hosts and youth media participants, they instituted two new awards: The first is for Public Service to be awarded to former alderman, mayor and congressman, Michael Capuano.

The second special award is the Eugene C. Brune Honor for service in the community media industry. This first of its kind was awarded to Gene Brune himself.

This year was very special because it brought together SMC’s traditional annual awards ceremony with a new gala vibe, and everyone was encouraged to wear their most creative attire to match the red carpet atmosphere.
