Police broke up a fight at the corner of Broadway and Temple June 14 and confiscated a 20-inch machete and a chain from two men who had allegedly been making gang signs with their hands.

Olman Moreno, 19, of 10 Memorial Rd., was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and a 16-year-old Somerville juvenile was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Somerville police officer Yvon Jean-Jacques Jr. detained Moreno and the 16-year-old juvenile after he allegedly saw them threatening three other boys with weapons.

Moreno was swinging a silver chain with a blue lock attached to it and the juvenile was pointing a machete at the three victims who were backing away as if they were scared, police said.

Gang unit cops arrived on scene and identified Moreno and the juvenile, police said.

The juvenile victims told police that Moreno and the juvenile approached them and threw up gang signs. As they got closer, Moreno and the 16-year-old pulled out weapons and picked up rocks to throw at the three boys, police said.
