In a daring blend of illusion, optimism, and extremely casual risk assessment, local magician and theatrical phenomenon, Uncle Yak, will ride a bicycle blindfolded through Davis Square, starting and ending in front of The Rockwell theater. The audacious feat will announce his upcoming appearance in the Boston Fringe Festival and promote his show, Uncle Yak and his Magic Comeback. But this is not merely a stunt. It is an experiment in collective belief, performance art, eco-friendly transportation, and cardiovascular exercise.

Uncle Yak claims the ride will only be possible through the focused positive will of the crowd, who will be asked to concentrate, cheer, and project supportive thoughts in his direction to “guide the bicycle using vibes alone.”

“Technically, I will be steering with the handlebars,” says Uncle Yak, “but spiritually, the audience will be steering with their hearts.”

“If enough people believe in me at once,” he explains, “the bike will simply know where to go. It’s like a self-driving car, but the tech is the magic that flickers deep inside every one of us. Like, you know, hopefully.”

“Some performers hang posters,” Uncle Yak adds. “I ride blindly into destiny. But I will probably hang some posters too.”

The event is designed to celebrate the joyful chaos of the Boston Fringe Festival and draw attention to Uncle Yak’s one-man show, Uncle Yak and his Magic Comeback, a high-energy mix of comedy, illusion, and theatrical nonsense about rust, relevance, and making a comeback that no one asked for, but everyone will enjoy.
