The Somerville Arts Council presented the annual Joe’s Jazz and Blues Festival, a free, all-day, outdoor event in beautiful Powderhouse Park, on Saturday, June 15, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Last Saturday night, after months of advertising all over the place, the East Somerville Reunion finally took place.

The event was held at the Somerville City Club function hall in East Somerville. Approximately 175 and more attended. with lots of laughs and old talk about the various parts of East Somerville each was associated with.

On Monday of this week, it was announced that Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone of Somerville filed a civil lawsuit against the blog Barstool Sports as well as their associate Kirk Minihane.

Curtatone alleges that Minihane impersonated Boston Globe reporter Kevin Cullen and illegally recorded the phone interview for illicit purposes.

Somerville is the first location in America to celebrate its flag before the constellation of stars on it began to grow. After the Battle of Bunker Hill, Colonial troops withdrew to fortify Prospect Hill. It was there, during the next year, that America’ s union began to form. Prospect Hill became known as General Washington’s Citadel, his command post during the siege of Boston.

I am about to embark on another teaching adventure since being laid off from my job at McLean Hospital over a year ago. I will be teaching two creative writing classes at Endicott College. The class will start out with poetry writing, then move on to memoir and end in fiction.

Tomas O’Leary grew up in Somerville. He is a poet, translator, music maker, singer, artist and expressive therapist. He has a volume of new and selected poems from Lynx House Press, In the Wellspring of the Ear. His previous books of poetry are Fool at the Funeral, The Devil Take a Crooked House, and A Prayer for Everyone. His poems have been published in a wide variety of literary journals.

Frank Laporta, of 28 Brook St., June 12, 11:07 a.m., arrested at Grand Union Blvd. on a charge of shoplifting by asportation third offense.

Erik Perez, of 375 Boston St., Lynn, June 12, 4:15 p.m., arrested at Washington St. on warrant charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and number plate violation.

Last year, Cambridge Health Alliance hosted a series of community meetings, held focus groups and conducted a broad-based survey to better understand the health care needs of the people who live in Somerville. As a follow-up to those conversations, CHA will be hosting another round of community meetings to present a series of service recommendations based on the feedback received.
