Jeff Robinson, founder of The Jeff Robinson Trio, holds court every Sunday Night at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, Ma. In the basement of the Cambridge Common restaurant, he performs a sort of wedding ceremony. This is a musical and lyrical ceremony in which poetry and jazz are paired and they make a perfect match. With Robinson on sax, Blake Newman on bass, and Jerome Deupree on drums, Robinson infuses the poetry of such local poets as Marc Goldfinger, Carla Schwartz, and Joyce Cuhna, with the Be and the Bop of Jazz.

Wyn Cooper has published five books of poems, most recently Mars Poetica. His work has appeared in Poetry, Ploughshares, Slate, and more than 100 other magazines, as well as in 25 anthologies of contemporary poetry. His poems have been turned into songs by Sheryl Crow, David Broza, and Madison Smartt Bell. He has taught at Bennington College, Marlboro College, the University of Utah, and at The Frost Place, and has given readings throughout the United States as well as in Europe and South America. He is a former editor of Quarterly West, and the recipient of a fellowship from the Ucross Foundation. He worked for two years at the Harriet Monroe Poetry Institute, a think tank run by the Poetry Foundation, and now lives in Somerville, Massachusetts, where he works as a freelance editor.

Event raises more than $525,000 for CHA’s community health mission
Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), an academic community health system serving Cambridge, Somerville and Boston’s metro-north region, honored Bon Ku, MD, an emergency room physician and the assistant dean for health and design at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, with its annual Art of Healing Award on Thursday, June 21, at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge. Dr. Ku, who was celebrated for his dedication to addressing health disparities for vulnerable populations, is the founder of JeffDESIGN, a first-of-its-kind program that teaches emerging physicians to apply human-centered design to health care challenges.

On Thursday, June 21, at approximately 11:10 p.m., the first of many panicked neighbors, parents, and children began flooding 911 operators with calls of a large group assailants attacking a Somerville student on the normally quiet Munroe St.
On this, the last day of School for Somerville Students, Maria Curtatone – Middlesex County Register of Deeds, sister of Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone, and proud mother of two children – decided to open her home to the community’s children for a last day of school celebration on Munroe St. Reliable “on scene” sources report that approximately 50 Somerville students were invited to this party.

EPA and MassDEP are active on this project and working to assist us as we continue with our assessment, and we took several important steps forward last week.
Each agency sent a representative to the site last week for a joint walk-about to inform their requirements for further testing. The visit was important progress. With EPA and MassDEP guidance, our Licensed Site Professional, Weston & Sampson, is finalizing a plan for the next phase of required testing.
