The City held a procession and memorial ceremony to recognize the 21st anniversary of 9/11. The procession started at Cedar Street and ended with a 9/11 memorial in Davis Square with the presentation and retiring of the colors by the Somerville Police and Somerville Fire Honor Guards. The speaking program was lead by Director of Veterans Services, Ted D. Louis-Jacques, followed by prayer by Father Paul Coughlin and reflective thoughts of September 11, 2001 by Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Councilor At-Large Kristen Strezo and Ward 7 Councilor Lance Davis.

SCES Outreach Director Nathan Lamb enjoys a walk at Waitt’s Mountain in Malden with his son Jason and dog Penny on Labor Day weekend. September is Falls Prevention Awareness Month and all month SCES employees are logging steps to help the Executive Office of Elder Affairs reach its goal of 45 million steps to reduce falls.
Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES) staffers are walking this September to raise awareness about fall prevention.
Falls are the leading cause of injury for older adults. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that one out of four Americans age 65 and over experiences a fall each year, resulting in more than 3 million emergency room visits.

Meetings for All Seven Wards Will Be Held in October
Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville City Council invite residents to attend the fall Community Meetings of 2022. After a hiatus during the pandemic, this twice-yearly meeting series, formerly known as the ResiStat program, will return to each of Somerville’s seven wards to share the latest City progress and neighborhood updates with residents, while also providing an opportunity for residents, elected officials, and City staff to talk with one another.

The fourth annual iteration of the free performance art festival occurs on Friday, September 9 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m (rain date 9/16) at Seven Hills Park behind the Davis Square MBTA station.
It features a live DJ as well as folk, R&B, Hip-Hop and genre-fusion performances from soloists and bands alike.
