The Somerville High School Track Parents and Alumni Club invites runners to participate in their “Somerville Monster Dash 2022,”Sunday, October 30, beginning at 11 a.m. at Assembly Row (Riverfront Park), Somerville.

Join us for the “Spook-tacular Inaugural Somerville Monster Dash 5K and kids’ fun run,” say the organizers.

City offices will be closed on Monday, October 10, for Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day.

No street sweeping on Monday.

Implementing codified space for art in new developments, mayor’s listening tour and artist survey continues city’s commitment to preserving vibrant arts scene in Somerville 

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Arts Council are thrilled to share the latest city initiatives to protect existing artist studios and create new spaces for local artists.  

The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) is marking this year’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) in October by expanding outreach efforts in recently-arrived Portuguese-speaking immigrant communities throughout the state and collaborating with local organizations to increase awareness and offer information and resources about domestic violence.

The festival which was first postponed due to rain, took over Union Square on Sunday, October 2. An evening of international eats, fire throwers, roving entertainment, and a raucous celebration of global culture. In addition to many local food vendors, there was interactive light installations, numerous illuminated performers and to top it all off, FIRE! Local eateries throughout the Square will be featuring Ignite themed specials. Performances by Jennifer Lin Dance, Flamenco Boston, KS Dance Studio, NewYakCity95, Boston Circus Guild and A Trike Called Funk. Over the course of the evening, there was dazzling light installations, projections and dance by local artists: Eventual Dance Company, Greg Kowalski, Pamela Hersch, DebStep, Maria Servellon, Maura Mendoza, Circe Rowan, and Olivia Moon. Roaming performances and street activities with the Flutterby Faeries, EventThem, and Jonah’s Twisters. Food vendors includef Union Square Pizza, El Mineirao, Siam Ginger, Machu Picchu and Art Council’s Nibble Culinary NEP Entrepreneurs.

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Office of Sustainability and Environment today announced the continuation of the City’s Community Choice Electricity (CCE) program, which will increase amounts of zero-carbon renewable energy from regional sources. Direct Energy is Somerville’s current supplier through the CCE program. After a competitive process, Direct Energy will continue to be Somerville’s CCE program supplier, with new electricity rates that will be fixed from November 2022 through December 2024.

Today some concert tickets cost thousands of dollars. Back in the day I think I paid between seven and $10 for concerts and sometimes even less. Around 1970 I saw Queen open up for Mott the Hoople (All The Young Dudes) at The Orpheum Theatre.
