This week I took an hour to try out the new stretch of the Community PATH that heads through Gilman Square, East Somerville and Brickbottom to the final points at North Point Park. It was a smooth and enjoyable ride on a sunny late Friday afternoon. How satisfying to move quickly over the bridges and look down on the backed-up cars on McGrath and Washington Streets! What fun to pick up a bit of speed down the roller coaster ride from the highest point next to Brickbottom down to Lechmere!

The summer solstice has arrived, and with it the official start of summer.

What is more delicious to the young mind than that savory and unrivaled treat, summer vacation? A well-deserved reward for all the hard work and irreplaceable time invested in the previous school year.

This is a quick and easy dish whether for a weeknight meal, or a nice meal to serve dinner guests. The traditional recipe was invented in Naples, Italy, possibly around the mid 20th century, but possibly earlier. The story told to me was, the women of the evening made this dish between clients because it was quick to prepare. And that it is!

At a recent Open Studio Event in Somerville, I came across an interesting artist, Daniel Coughlin. What struck me at first was his work with old basketballs. Coughlin is much more than a basketball artist, and works with many different objects in his practice.

Barbara Reynolds is a poet and an adjunct professor of mathematics at Lesley University. She has lived in Somerville, Massachusetts for over thirty years and frequently takes walks on Somerville Avenue, picking up poems along the way. Her poems have appeared in Pangyrus, Avocet, Indolent Books: What Rough Beast, Muddy River Poetry Review, The Somerville Times, Willowdown Books anthology Poems from The Lockdown, Riddled with Arrows, and Somerville Poetry Open 2021: Together In Poetry. The Ward 1 Democratic City Committee will hold its 2023 Virtual Caucus to elect Delegates to the 2023 Democratic State Convention on Saturday, June 24, at 10:00 a.m. on Zoom (Meeting ID: 862 7676 329; passcode = 762019) at:https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86276763290?pwd=L2pRaDYrakhaOWw2M3NjMXgrYVR1dz09 .

Ward 1 has been allotted 7 delegates and 4 alternates for this year’s State Convention, which will be held in Lowell on Saturday, September 23.

With summer approaching, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) reminds residents to take recommended common-sense precautions to keep everyone, especially young children, safe this summer.
