The City of Somerville’s Commission on Energy Use and Climate Change (CEUCC) seeks one new member, and all Somerville residents are invited to apply. Boards and commissions offer an opportunity for residents with a range of experience, skills, expertise, and perspectives to share their talents and insights with their community. CEUCC applicants should have some combination of knowledge about climate change, as well as lived or professional experience with environmental justice communities or experience developing sustainable buildings and/or affordable housing.

A joint venture between Cabot, Cabot & Forbes (“CC&F”), a Boston-based developer of mixed-use properties, and Normandy Opportunity Zone Fund, LP, a real estate fund sponsored by Cannon Hill Capital Partners (“Cannon Hill”), a vertically-integrated real estate operator, developer and investment manager focused on the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic markets,  announced the acquisition of 65-75 Mystic Avenue in the Assembly Square neighborhood of Somerville, MA. A portion of the 11.5-acre site is comprised of a 125,000 SF retail big box leased to Home Depot. CC&F and Cannon Hill financed the purchase with proceeds from CrowdStreet, a fintech company that operates an online real estate investment platform, as well as loans from Centennial Commercial Finance Group and Lionheart Strategic Management LLC.

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and Ward 2 Councilor J.T. Scott invite you to a virtual community meeting about a new park planned for 217 Somerville Ave. The city is transforming the site, currently a vacant lot at the corner of Somerville Avenue and Rossmore Street, into a pocket park, which will add approximately .15 acres to Somerville’s open space network. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2024, and the park is expected to open in the spring of 2025.

A Massachusetts man was sentenced today in the District of Columbia on felony and misdemeanor offenses for his actions during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach. His actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the presidential election.

Driver rescued from overturned vehicle in Somerville

At approximately 9:55 p.m. tonight a vehicle flipped over on its side on Washington St. in Somerville. The Somerville Fire Dept. arrived after receiving reports of entrapment, the driver was trapped behind the steering wheel of the vehicle. Once extricated, the driver was transported to the hospital.
Injuries are unknown and no further information is available at this time.

Car battering woman sidelined by police

On Monday, July 17, at approximately 7:03 p.m., Somerville Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Myrtle St. and Pearl St. on reports of a suspicious person. The reporting party was stating that an older woman wearing a sundress and black scarf was punching cars as they were driving by.

A really NICE vendor market

NICE, a Vendor Market, took place this past weekend in Statue Park, Davis Square. A wide array of amazing brands, makers and sellers took part in the market offering label merch, used vinyl, second-hand clothes, free goodies and more. The Crystal Ballroom at the Somerville Theatre and The Rockwell played dual hosts for the third annual NICE, a fest, all ages concert event featuring over 70 musical acts, mostly from the Greater Boston area, spread out through the weekend at the two hosting venues.
