Tom Driscoll is a poet, columnist, and essayist. He lives in Lowell, Massachusetts with his wife, artist Denise Driscoll. The Champion of Doubt was published in the summer 2023 from Finishing Line Press. Previously, he had released several collections of poetry, including Odd Numbers and Absence Singing as well as a volume of song lyrics, Songs For All The Wrong Reasons and Personal Histories a collection of short prose. Tom’s poem Duty Leave Home won the Robert P. Collén Poetry Prize in 2017. Notes on Demolition was selected an Editor’s Choice for the Allen Ginsberg Prize and This isn’t the first time received Third Place in The Frank O’Hara Prize, both in 2021.

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Arts Council (SAC) warmly invite the Somerville community to join in the city’s 2023 holiday celebrations. The city will illuminate City Hall concourse with festive tree and menorah lighting events that will include snacks, refreshments, entertainment and gifts for children.

On 11/9/23 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Somerville Police responded to a residence on Somerville Ave. for report of a past breaking and entering. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated copper pipe was stolen from his basement.

Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services celebrated 50 years of services by convening a Future of Aging forum in October.

The forum brought together industry leaders from the medical, aging, advocacy, political, and community-based services fields to discuss emerging trends and best practices to help stakeholders build a better future of aging.

The City of Somerville is encouraging the community to get ready now for potential snow storms this winter season by signing up for City alerts and reviewing protocols for snow emergencies in advance. Preparing now will help keep the community safe, and reduce  ticketing or towing for snow emergency parking violations and ticketing for failure to follow sidewalk shoveling requirements.
