Comcast License Renewal Public Hearing

Monday, February 13, 2023, 6 p.m.  

All interested persons are invited to a public hearing on the draft proposal for the license renewal of Comcast Cable. The proposal sets guidelines for operations, service provision, licensing fees, and in-kind and capital contributions to the City via a federally regulated process for municipal issuance of local cable franchise licenses. The City of Somerville, by the Mayor as the statutory Cable License Issuing Authority, will hold the Cable License Renewal Public Hearing on Monday, February 13, 2023, at 6 p.m. The hearing will be virtual and can be accessed online via Zoom or by phone. The draft proposal is available for public inspection at the Office of the City Clerk at City Hall, 93 Highland Ave. or online at somervillema.gov/2023licenserenewal

Waterlines: Stories of Ebb and Flow at the Somerville Museum

Seeking the Source is a project by the artist Hey There Kapplow, commissioned for the exhibition Waterlines, currently on view at the Museum. It uses water as a metaphor for intuition and the tenacious persistence of the practice of dowsing in the modern world as a symbol of our capacity to retain and nurture intuitive understanding even while we rely on technologies and enlightenment-age logic for our day-to-day operations in a way that would seem to make intuition obsolete.

Somerville Police Log Jan. 15 – Jan. 20

Arrest
On 1/17/23 at approximately 12:17 p.m., Somerville Police responded to a business on Mystic Ave for report of a larceny. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the manager who stated a male party stole numerous items from the store then brandished a knife and swung it at him. Officers observed the male fleeing toward the Assembly train station and ordered him to stop. A knife was recovered from his pocket and he was placed into custody.

Attempted larceny and a switchblade

Somerville Police officers were dispatched to the Home Depot store on Mystic Ave. on reports of a larceny.

While en route to the scene, police dispatch relayed to responding units that the suspect had ran towards Lucky Strike and that the reporting party was possibly off with the suspect at Capital One. Dispatch provided a description of the suspect and that he could be in possession of a knife.

Finalists expected to participate in public interviews, site visits beginning February 6

Following an extensive search process and using feedback from more than 400 SPS community members, the Somerville School Committee and the Somerville Superintendent Screening Subcommittee are set to announce the candidates that will advance to the second and final round of the interview process. The Subcommittee will announce the finalists during a special School Committee meeting on Monday, January 30, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held remotely via Zoom.

There used to be three junior high schools in Somerville – the Western, the Southern and the Northeastern. I went to the Western, which was up near Teele Square. Dr. Horne was the principal and Mr. Mackey was the vice-principal – it was 1968.
