The Red Line rumbles beneath Davis Square and soon the Green Line will travel through our fair city. But for many years, trains used to chug through Davis Square crossing Willow Ave, and then onto Cambridge. Remember watchman's tower in the Square? The following are some personal recollections of folks growing up when the train ran through the 'Ville. If you're old enough to remember it, you no doubt have train-related stories.

Cabral to serve as interim police chief

Somerville
police Deputy Chief Michael Cabral has been named interim police chief
by Mayor Joe Curtatone following Monday's announcement that Chief
Anthony Holloway will be leaving to serve as chief of police in
Clearwater, Fla.

Car robbery

Monday afternoon, two cars on Somerville Ave had their doors propped a quarter of the way open in a suspected car robbery case. The first car with its door propped opened was four cars away from the other opened car. This case is still part of an ongoing investigation.

Somerville Police Chief Anthony Holloway has been chosen to be the new chief of police for the city of Clearwater Florida.

Mayor Joseph Curtatone will select a new interim police chief tomorrow morning, the choice will be between Deputy Chief Paul Upton and Deputy Chief Michael Cabral.

Cambridge Portuguese Credit Union robbed

The Cambridge Portuguese Credit Union (CPCU) located on Somerville Avenue was robbed early Friday afternoon.

State and Somerville police on the scene said the suspect may be responsible for a string of local robberies in the area.

Unwanted Christmas trees to get new life in Union Square

Ah,
the waste that the Christmas season generates. Among skeins of wrapping
paper and empty bottles of wine, those discarded trees on the curbside
are among the most visible reminders of the holiday's excesses.

Two
artists have a plan to breathe new life into this year's crop of
forgotten Christmas trees. Staring Jan. 23, they will begin installing
the unwanted evergreens in Union Square, shaping them into topiary-like
forms, and covering them with hot pink fabric.
