Cabot Farms sits on Broadway just before the block of stores that includes an Asian restaurant, a caterer’s headquarters, and the convenience store and Dunkin Donuts.
Outside is the rusty skeletal remains of what was once a colorful awning and entrance way. The facade of the building boasts of an era gone by, with colors very faded and fixtures in advanced decay. It sits beneath what looks like at least six rental units, as the building is huge. In real estate terms it is known as a gold mine. The family that has owned it for decades still owns it as far as I know. A couple of years ago when I spoke to the owner’s son, (a well known local musician back in the 70’s who is around my age), they still owned it.

Today we opened the doors on a new school year. After a long, hot summer it’s good to see the students returning to school. One of the best parts of having the high school right next door to City Hall is it serves as a consistent reminder of why municipal government matters. Our children deserve to live in a safe, clean, healthy, vibrant community where they can get the best possible education we can give them. When we deliver on that, it helps move the entire city forward.

The logo should reproduce well in newsletters, flyers, T-shirts, mugs, etc. We’re seeking an image consistent with the mission (included below) that conveys community, unity and young energy. The logo should be bold and not too “busy,” must include the name, Young Somerville Advisory Group and can be text only or text and image.

An investigation into drug dealing in Davis Square led officers to a Revere heroin dealer last week and a confrontation that left two officers with injuries.
Drug investigators followed Angela Pisani, who was arrested July 20 in Davis Square on heroin charges, to a basement apartment at 79 Dover St. and saw Raymond Sanchez enter, police said.

A Hyde Park woman arrested for breaking into an unlocked van at 88 Broadway on Sunday had an assortment of pills when police cuffed her.
Jennifer Woodworth, 23, of 23 Pierce St., was arrested and charged with breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, possession of a class E drug, possession of a class B drug and possession of a class A drug.

Tuesday evening Mayor Joseph Curtatone swore in three new Somerville Firefighters with a ceremony that was held at City Hall.
David Pantanella, Thomas Medeiros and Jay McKenzie are the newest additions to the Somerville Fire Department that will be joining a fine group of individuals that protect Somerville residents on a daily basis from the unpredictable.
New firefighter Jay McKenzie received an extended honor from his mother Ret. Somerville Firefighter Cynthia Snow-Murphy who passed on her badges and Cap to her son Jay at the ceremony. McKenzie is the first child of a female Somerville firefighter to join the department.

Listen to live music, eat local food, and win prizes at the Local Roots Food and Music Festival. This is Groundwork Somerville’s fourth year producing the event as a fund raiser for youth gardening and green community efforts.
The outdoor concert at the festival will feature several local musicians. Mark Santoro will sing his own songs and play a mixture of folk and country music with his acoustic guitar. Dylan Chace also sings and plays guitar, but his genre of choice is crybaby rock.

Both pushed for immigrant rights, environmental concerns and education but few issues divided the candidates in the debate, both Democrats.
