The Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) announced a tax amnesty program that will run from November 1 to December 30, 2024.  The program will forgive penalties for some taxpayers who are able to pay in full their tax balances and interest.  When the Legislature included the amnesty in the state budget it projected raising $100 million in revenue.  The program will also resolve the tax burdens of those who can make amends within the limited time window.   A win-win, it seems.  Except for those distressed taxpayers who cannot quickly come up with a lump sum to pay off their outstanding debts.

Final Paving: Summer Street and Westwood Road, October 21

On Monday, Oct. 21, between approximately 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. crews will pave Summer Street (~Belmont Street to School Street) and Westwood Road (Central Street to Benton Road).

Traffic detours and parking restrictions will be in place. People driving are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Somerville Police Crime Log October 8 – 14

24063136: On 10/10/24 at approximately 12:00 a.m., Somerville Police responded to a residence on Prospect St. for a past breaking and entering. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated he was sleeping and awoke to a male party in his room attempting to take his backpack. The victim confronted the suspect and the suspect fled out of the house.

Somerville High School placed on lockdown Friday morning

Message from Somerville Public Schools:
 
As of 10:45 this morning, the Secure and Hold at SHS has been lifted. The school was placed into a Secure and Hold at 9:30 a.m. due to a threat made through a phone call to the school. SPS administrators and the Somerville Police Department conducted a thorough search of the school for approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. We found no evidence of a safety concern in the building and all school operations have now returned to normal.
