First, we hear that Alderman Maryann Heuston is running for Registrar of Deeds then we hear she’s not and then we hear that she is definitely in the race for the seat held by Eugene Brune. She will be running along with local attorney and sister to the Mayor, Maria Curtatone. It’s for Southern Middlesex County Registrar of Deeds, which, in case you didn’t know, Middlesex County is the only county in the U.S. that has two Registrar of Deeds. Eugene Brune has served over 20 years as Registrar and leaves big shoes to fill, being such a popular guy. Either of these two women could do it.

Senior Olympics: Promoting healthy living

The Senior Olympics are coming to Somerville.  The Council on Aging is providing some incentive to sign up for the exercise classes and partake in the competition. Senior citizens who participate in eighteen separate exercise classes will win a bronze metal. After thirty classes the center will bestow participants with silver medals. With the successful completion of forty exercise classes members will receive gold medals.

Irate mother ejects son, assaults cop

Police responded to a series of calls last Saturday evening from a woman who wanted her son removed from her home, according to reports.

Responding officers first visited the woman’s home around 10 p.m. and were reportedly advised by her that her son was on the lease, and that she wanted them to order him out of the apartment. The officers advised her that it was a civil matter and that, due to him being on the lease, he was a lawful resident of the apartment, according to reports. The son, who at the time was in the shower, reportedly agreed to leave as soon as he finished washing. Police then cleared the scene.

SHS girls track finishes first

Although there was no “official” scoring, the girls track team finished first at the GBL Freshman-Sophmore Meet held last Thursday in the field house.

Scoring for the Highlanders were: Taija Clark-1st place High Jump; Delmi Hernandez-1st place -1000; Natisha Lewis-2nd place-shot put; Miranda Desaulniers-3rd place; Bianca Desert-3rd place -shot put; Catherine Nakato-3rd place-300; Laxmi Spearing-3rd place 600; Shianne Harrington-4th-Dash; Emily-Kate Obrien-4th-1000; Nichole Lewis-4th-shot put; Cheyanna Grant-Jackson-5th-dash; Celia Conte-5th- 1000; Emily Mei-6th-600; Jennifer Leone-6th-shot put; and the 2nd place relay yeam of Miranda Desaulniers, Catherine Nakatao, Delmi Hernandez and Shianne Harrington.

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Director of Traffic and Parking Matthew Dias announce that major credit cards, Visa, MasterCard and Discover, are now accepted at Traffic and Parking for all transactions in an effort to improve customer service and respond to customer feedback.
