
The Nave Gallery (Somerville, MA) will host a group exhibition on March 22nd and 23rd at its main gallery space in Teele Square. Featuring over a dozen local and national artists from the Super Precious Art Gallery, Nursery Rhymes asks artists to create poster print illustrations inspired by their favorite nursery rhymes from childhood.

Our parents sent us there to get milk and bread. We could walk there. We would get ourselves some penny candy while we were there. It seemed there was a mom and pop store on every corner in Somerville.

Join Groundwork Somerville on March 9 at the Somerville Community Growing Center for the annual Somerville Maple Syrup Project Boil Down! Community members of all ages are invited to 22 Vinal Avenue between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to watch and learn as sap from local maple trees is boiled down into pure maple syrup over a warm fire. Enjoy syrup-tasting, kids’ activities, tapping demonstrations, live music by local band The Pennies, and more! Waffles, syrup, hot cocoa (generously donated by Whole Foods Market and Taza Chocolate) and T-shirts will be on sale. We’ll also have a table for seed order pickup from the Growing Center’s Seed Sale fundraiser.

As residents of the most densely populated community in New England, our choice to live, work, play and raise families in an urban environment is dictated by many factors, like proximity to family and friends, access to jobs and services, and the cultural and entrepreneurial energy that defines cities. Walkability and bikeability between neighborhoods and squares, immediate access goods and services, and the cultural understanding that comes with sharing close borders with neighbors are all key factors setting us apart from suburban or rural communities. Perhaps the most fundamental element to our quality of life in an urban core is choice in transportation.

The new shop, opened up at 201 Somerville Ave in Union Square, is making a killing off of what part owner and chief donut creator Heather Schmidt calls “more like a high end pastry than a donut.”
