Eleanor T. “Ellie” Blute – Affectionately known as Ellie, and a lifelong resident of Somerville, passed away peacefully at her family home on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. She was 92 years old.

Born, raised, and educated in Somerville, Ellie was the beloved daughter of the late Michael and Josephine (Caso) Bove. A woman of deep faith, Ellie believed that her devotion to God gave her the strength, independence, and guidance that she carried throughout her life. Her faith was not only something she practiced, but something she lived each day through her service to others.

Ellie was a dedicated and active member of St. Ann Parish in Somerville, where she generously volunteered countless hours of her time. She taught Sunday School, helping to guide generations of children in their faith, and was well known as the head of the parish bingo program, a role she embraced with enthusiasm and dedication. Her commitment to her community extended beyond the church as well. As the Title I Coordinator for the City of Somerville, Ellie played a significant role in the development and growth of the department, helping to create opportunities and resources that benefited countless students and families throughout the city.

Even after retirement, Ellie’s passion for education and helping children never faded. She became affectionately known throughout Somerville as “The Story Lady,” traveling to local schools and sharing her love of reading with young students. Her impact on the community was so profound that a Parent Resource Room at the Michael Capuano School was named in her honor, a lasting tribute to the difference she made in the lives of so many families.

Ellie was a dedicated member of her community, giving generously of her time to support local schools through many years of involvement with the PTA. She served on the committee that created the beloved Dinner Dance fundraiser, which continues to benefit students and families. Ellie was also a committed civic participant, serving as a voting member of the Ward 5 Democratic Committee, where she helped elect officers and take part in selecting the Chair of the Somerville Democratic City Committee.

While Ellie found great fulfillment in her work, volunteerism, and faith, her greatest joy was always her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether gathering around the table for a simple family meal, celebrating holidays and special occasions, or enjoying a day spent together, Ellie treasured being surrounded by those she loved most. Her presence brought warmth, comfort, and laughter to every family gathering.

Ellie also shared a special bond with her siblings, whom she often referred to as her built-in best friends. They enjoyed many happy years together, creating cherished memories through family vacations, gatherings, and simple moments spent enjoying a cup of coffee and each other’s company.

In quieter moments, Ellie enjoyed relaxing with her favorite Hallmark movies, finding comfort in their heartwarming stories and happy endings. Her kindness, unwavering faith, dedication to her community, and unconditional love for her family will be remembered.

Beloved wife of the late Lawrence Blute. Devoted mother of Joanne Ferguson and her husband Tim of Somerville, John Blute and his partner Herman van der Wielen of Amsterdam, Mary Case and her late husband Adrian of Reading, Stephen Blute and his wife Deborah of Billerica, and the late Lawrence Blute,Jr. Cherished grandmother of Laurie McGrath her wife Shira Levine of Weymouth, Michael Ragone of Brighton, Ryan Blute of Billerica and Shawn Blute of Billerica. Loving great-grandmother of Katherine McGrath of Brighton, Benjamin Levine of Weymouth and Lillian Levine of Weymouth. Dear sister of the late Lillian, Louise, Anne, Lena, Angie, Evelyn, Marie, John, Joseph and Alfred. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral procession will be held from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, on Wednesday, June 24 at 9:00AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Ann Church 399 Medford St., Somerville at 10:00AM.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.

Services will conclude with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden
