On March 6, Irish folk rock came to Somerville, courtesy of Somerville Theatre in Davis Square. John Doyle and Karan Casey performed for the packed theatre, with John Doyle on acoustic guitar and vocals, and Karan Casey singing. Other instruments were incorporated into the act.

Somerville Snow Emergency lifted as of Tuesday, March 19, 6 p.m.

The City of Somerville will lift its snow emergency as of 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 19. Residents parked in municipal or school lots during the snow emergency will have a two-hour window starting at that time in which to move their vehicles. Cars still parked in city lots at 8 p.m. may be subject to ticketing and towing.  For more information, please visit www.somervillema.gov/snow, or visit the city Facebook pages and Twitter feeds.

At about 8:05 a.m  Tuesday morning at the intersection of Highland Ave. and Willow Ave. it was a snowy scene of a two car motor vehicle accident that caused one of the vehicles to crash into the building located at 349 Highland Ave.

In accordance with the city’s Snow Emergency Procedures, Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone has declared a snow emergency for the City of Somerville to go into effect at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 18. During snow emergencies, parking is allowed on the odd-numbered side of the street only (unless otherwise posted). Cars not moved by 10 p.m. Monday night may be subject to ticketing and towing.

Author Mike Lanza to Lead Discussion on Creating More Active Neighborhood Play Spaces  

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, the Somerville Public Library, Somerville Recreation Department, and Somerville Family Learning Collaborative invite all interested residents to attend a community workshop and book discussion with Mike Lanza, author of “Playborhood:  Turn Your Neighborhood Into a Place for Play,” a book currently available through the SPL that identifies creative ways to create vibrant neighborhood play areas for children, and solutions to help children spend more time engaging in active play.  The workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 19 from 6 to 8:15 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chambers at City Hall.
