Goran Smiljic Accepts Position of Head of ISD as of April 29

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced today the hiring of the city’s newest Director of Inspectional Services, Mr. Goran Smiljic, who will assume the position as of April 29, 2013, taking over for outgoing Superintendent, Ed Nuzzo.  Smiljic, the Deputy City Engineer for the City of Utica, New York, had also served as Commissioner of the Codes Department, and Building and Housing Inspector in the same city.  He is a certified inspector in the state of New York.

Poet William Harney writes: “The poem about my father conflates things by describing me as a boy playing with him, as a young adult  when he died, and my missing him now, long after.  He was a big, gentle man who seemed always to enfold any of his eight children standing or sitting with them, a    reassuring physical presence.  In the process of writing a poem, of making choices, one of  the rewards often is that your reasons for holding on to particular scenes and sensations becomes  clearer, the emotional charge things have comes out.  That happened for me here.”

Curtatone for the annual Somerville Spring Clean-Up on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. – noon at several locations throughout the city.  The annual cleanup is sponsored by Comcast, and this year Comcast will also partner with Groundwork Somerville for a cleanup at three additional sites, as well as the SomerGreen Festival to be held at the Blessing of the Bay Boat House on Shore Drive following the Cleanup.  A rain date has been set for Sunday, April 28.  Volunteers should meet a ward captain at 10:00 a.m. at the following locations:
