$195.6 million budget includes significant investment in education, as well as quality of life improvements, preventive maintenance, multi-lingual community outreach, and a boost in Veterans Services.
Today, Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone will submit a $195.6 million budget for fiscal year 2014 that makes a down payment on the City of Somerville’s future by investing in expanded education, inspectional services that protect quality of life, and preventive maintenance that cares for investments already made by the City’s taxpayers, as well as new multi-lingual outreach efforts and expanded Veterans Services.

Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $5,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education® grant to the Arthur D. Healey School in Somerville for improvements to the school’s learning and nutrition garden and school playground. The Healey School is one of more than 580 schools across the United States to be awarded a Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant this spring for school improvement projects during the 2012-2013 school year.

The Somerville Council on Aging’s LGBT Advisory Board invites all members of the public to its summer movie series, “Movies to Come Out To,” open to LGBT older adults and allies. Celebrate Pride month with the first movie in the series, a special advanced screening of “Cloudburst” before its release later this summer. This movie has only been seen at Film Festivals! Cloudburst is about a lesbian couple that escapes from a nursing home in Maine and drives to Canada to get married.* Free food will be provided by Redbones and The State Room.
