Edwin Martinez, 32, of 32 Lexington St., East Boston, June 17, 1:53 a.m., arrested at 282 Somerville Ave. on warrant charges of operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, number plate violation, and not in possession of registration.

Edward Sarmanian, 38, of 952 Maun St., Melrose, June 17, 10:31 a.m., arrested at 220 Washington St. on  a warrant charge of receiving a stolen credit card.

Somerville Police are seeking to identify the suspect in photo depicted. The suspect entered the Sovereign Bank at 403 Highland Avenue at approximately 1:10 p.m., Monday, passed a note, and threatened the teller while demanding cash. No weapon was shown. The suspect fled on foot east on Highland Avenue.

Somerville High School Student PSA Entry Takes Top Honors in ‘2013 Speak Up: Your Voice Matters’ PSA Project

Somerville High School students earned the top spot in the 2013 Speak Up: Your Voice Matters PSA Project hosted by Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Middlesex Partnerships for Youth, Inc.  Maxwell Freitas, Kathlyn Almeida and Kayla Brown-Haynes were the overall winners for “Don’t be a Bystander: Do Something” (http://middlesexda.com/news/videos.php?reference=50). More than 200 students participated in the fifth annual PSA Project; 50 videos were submitted for consideration.  The SHS team of Franklin Rodriguez, Jenny Dunn and Roubin Philemond were also among the five finalists with their PSA “Speak Up – The Movie” (http://middlesexda.com/news/videos.php?reference=49).

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 2 Alderman Maryann Heuston invited all interested community members to a public meeting on Tuesday, June 25 to discuss upcoming construction schedules and traffic impacts related to the Green Line Extension (GLX) project. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at La Hacienda Restaurant, 46 Medford Street. Work is scheduled to begin on the Medford Street Bridge in July, which will have impacts on vehicle traffic in this area. Community members are invited to attend the public meeting to learn about expected work and future plans for the Ward 2 and Union Square neighborhoods. Come to a hands-on workshop sponsored by the City of Somerville Historic Preservation Commission and Historic Somerville on How to Repair Windows Yourself on Saturday, June 29, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Somerville Museum, One Westwood Road. With proper tools, knowledge, and care, your windows can last for many years. This workshop will be a hands-on demonstration with an actual window from the Somerville Museum.

June has arrived, and the Class of 2010 prepares for their graduation and Class Day exercises.

A very nice tradition that has been upheld over the years is to invite the class from 50 years ago to the current year’s Class Day exercises. This year it’s the Class of 1960.
