Eagle Feathers #105 – Two Centuries – Two Trials

They were both called the trial of their century. The first was the Parkman/Webster murder trial of 1849 to 1850 that was based on money. It shook Boston’s high society to its core. Both George Parkman and John Webster were Harvard-educated doctors and popular members of Boston’s elite.

Another year passes and we pause at this time to congratulate and honor the hard working students who achieved their goal of successfully completing their courses of studies at their respective high schools and colleges.

It takes a lot of dedication and commitment to follow through to completion in this world, which is filled with so many challenges and distractions. It is no small feat to take one’s education to the limit, and these moments represent important milestones along the path to success in life.

A half dozen of the top athletes in the U.S. will join two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Record-holder Meseret Defar of Ethiopia, 2008 Olympic silver medalist Nick Willis of New Zealand, and 2015 IAAF World Champion Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa at Dilboy Memorial Stadium to compete in the adidas Boost Boston Games, organizers have announced.

Join the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission and East Somerville Main Streets on Sunday, June 12, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., for a walking tour entitled, “Evolving Face of East Somerville: From Horse Drawn Trolleys to Transit Stations.” Ed Gordon, President of the New England Chapter of the Victorian Society in America, will lead a lively walking tour exploring changes in the historic buildings and landscape of this area.  Meet at the East Branch Library, 115 Broadway, and end at Assembly Row with complimentary refreshments. Danyell Hardy, of 60 Westville St., Dorchester, May 31, 5:23 p.m., arrested at Middlesex Ave. on a charge of shoplifting by concealing merchandise and on warrant charges of assault and battery, assault and battery on a family or household member, and resisting arrest.

Dmitri Edmond, of 129 Sherwoodglen, Somersworth, NH, June 1, 4:56 p.m., arrested at Broadway on a charge of fugitive from justice and on a warrant charge of assault and battery on a police officer.

Last year, 59 Somerville High School students set a new Guinness World Record for the “most arm-linked people to stand-up simultaneously,” earning the school its first record.
