M.O.M.’s Run 2016 took place on Mother’s Day, this past Sunday. The traditional Kids 0.1 Mile took off at 9:30 a.m., with the Walkers 5K following at 9:45 a.m., and the Runners 5K heading out at 10:00 a.m.

For the first time in months, Green Line Extension supporters have reason to hope. At a packed meeting on Monday afternoon, the MassDOT board of directors and the MBTA fiscal management and control board voted to provisionally allow the embattled project to move forward.

The SHS Building Committee gathered on Monday, May 9 to discuss the next steps in the renovation or rebuilding process. Tony Pierantozzi, Former Superintendent of Schools in Somerville and Chairman of the SHS Building Committee, recently gave a tour concerning a variety of physical issues currently afflicting the Somerville High School building. The May 9 meeting recapped some of these problems and the tour did a good job explaining why a metamorphosis for the SHS building is crucial.

Esteemed alt-pop combo The Posies are currently engaged in a “secret” U.S. tour of unconventional spaces in support of the impending release of their new album Solid States, due to drop on May 20. They will be stopping off in Somerville on Friday, May 13 for a sold out show at a yet-to-be-disclosed location.

Drawing this Friday night so hurry up and get your ticket for the drawing for The Somerville High Scholarship Foundation that is once again having its huge drawing coming up in May 13 at the Highlander Café at Somerville High School. Refreshments will be served beginning at 7:00 p.m. Drawing at 8:00 p.m. Several door prizes will be given out during the drawing for the $10,000 grand prize. Tickets for the drawing are $100 each. You can purchase one or share the cost of one with many in your home/office or with friends. It’s a great fundraiser for the kids. Over the years the SHS Foundation has benefitted many students. It’s been a great organization here in the city since 1990 and has grown over the years, serving many Somerville graduates to further their education. See you at the drawing. Police officers were dispatched to a Packard Ave. location last week on reports of a motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, the officers were informed by Tufts police that they had detained the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, Ali Penniman, of Lexington.

Somerville Arts Council provided a family friendly Cinco de Mayo celebration last Thursday in Union Square. There was Mariachi music, dancers, piñatas and kids activities. From 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.  you could visit the local Union Square restaurants to dance the night away.
