The OPENAIR Circus is proud to bring circus arts to the children and families of the Greater Somerville area at extremely affordable prices. They are wrapping up the 2016 season and invite you to their 31st annual performances this weekend at Nunziato Field, just 2 blocks outside Union Sq. at Summer St. and Vinal Ave. Friday, August 5 at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, August 6 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, August 7 at 2:00 p.m. Suggested donation is $3. Even though we got a much needed break from the heat earlier this week, along with some rain to help combat the drought we’re in, summer is far from over. The heat will return and we’ll be back to weather that demands your attention. Hot and humid weather in the summer requires us to make adjustments just as much as cold and snowy weather in winter. In fact the heat is a little bit more deceptive because it can dehydrate you without you realizing it.

Wynn receives DEP license

casino_6_8_16_webWynn Resorts announced today that it has officially received its Chapter 91 license from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and will immediately start construction on the $2.1 billion Wynn Boston Harbor resort.

“After three years and one of the most thorough licensing and environmental review processes in the history of Massachusetts, Wynn Boston Harbor has its license in hand and will begin construction. Hiring and building starts tomorrow,” said Robert DeSalvio, President of Wynn Boston Harbor. “That’s good news for 4,000 union construction workers, their families, and all the local businesses and nearby communities who will benefit from our $2.1 billion project.”

Public Meeting on Condo Conversion Notification Requirements

Last Thursday evening, the Massachusetts Municipal Police Coalition, along with other local police unions, showed up at City Hall to protest the displaying of the “Black Lives Matter” banner on the public building.
About 100 to 125 Officers and supporters were present to hear speakers and to ask the mayor to take the banner down.

On Monday, Governor Charlie Baker signed a bipartisan pay equity bill, passed unanimously by both legislative branches, to ensure equal pay for comparable work for all Massachusetts workers and equal opportunities to earn competitive salaries in the workplace. The Governor was joined by Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, Senate President Stanley Rosenberg, Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo, Treasurer Deb Goldberg, State Auditor Suzanne Bump, State Senator Patricia Jehlen, Representative Ellen Story, Representative Patricia Haddad and members of the Legislature at a signing ceremony in the State House to enact S.2119, An Act to Establish Pay Equity, which will go into effect on July 1, 2018 for Commonwealth employers and employees.
