On Thursday, June 23 2016, at 7:20 a.m., Officer Bork, who was just completing her last half shift in Car 4, stopped at Starbucks at Assembly Row. Today, June 29, 2016, the department received a commendation request via email from, Blair Connelly, a resident of Melrose. Ms. Connelly was so impressed by the actions of Officer Bork that she wrote the following and sent it to us:

It’s one of Union Square’s newer additions, but it feels like it’s been there forever. Walking into Gracies’ small, white interior, it feels clean and neat, but lived in. Unique and clearly hand picked art hangs scattered on the wall. Several mason jars of toppings sit on shelves behind the register. Flavors are written on the wall in dry-erase marker. And the staff is just the right amount of friendly.

While conducting personal business at the Starbucks on Elm St. last Sunday, two uniformed Somerville police officers took notice as a man wearing what appeared to be hospital scrubs approached the counter and placed an order.

Get ready to laugh this summer. Somerville City Cable has curated a SomerMovie Fest line up full of comedies. Spaceballs kicks off the series on Thursday, July 7 at Seven Hills Park in Davis Square. Movies start just after sunset. The series continues as follows:

Throughout those many decades when he performed both on stage and film, he did that very thing, bringing forth laughter and making this old world so much brighter.

Last week Senator Pat Jehlen (D-Somerville) and her colleagues in the Massachusetts Senate voted to engross an omnibus energy bill to diversify the state’s energy portfolio by procuring additional clean energy resources to replace aging power plants that are going offline and move the Commonwealth closer to its emissions reduction goals under the Massachusetts Global Warming Solutions Act.

Did you hear the big door slamming sound last weekend? It’s all those doors being closed and people running up to NH or down to the cape to have a great summer. Summer’s finally here and we wish all a safe and happy time this year. The streets seemed empty, compared to what we’re used to.
