Citywide preliminary election 2019 unofficial results

Somerville voters headed to the polls today to cast ballots for Mayor and Ward 3 School Committee in a preliminary election, which is similar to a primary election.

Voters narrowed down both the mayoral and the Ward 3 School Committee candidates to two candidates each. This was a nonpartisan preliminary and all voters were permitted to vote for any candidate running for either office.


The general election will be on Tuesday, November 5.

The preliminary results as of press time are as
follows:

In the race for mayor:

Marianne Walles 37.12%
Kenneth C. Van Buskirk, III 4.74%
Joseph A. (Joe) Curtatone 57.49%
Write-In 0.65%

The top two candidates, incumbent Joseph A. Curtatone and challenger Marianne Walles will face off in November’s main election.

For School Committee Ward 3, the results are as follows:

Michele Lippens 25.23%
Sarah Phillips 44.79%
Mary Marshall 29.69%
Write-In 0.29%

Sarah Phillips and Mary Marshall will be on the ballot accordingly in November.

Additional Councilor At-Large candidates will be Joann Bocca-Rivieccio, Jack Connolly, Kevin Jura, and Kristen Strezo.
