A
year after first floating permit parking citywide, the Board of
Aldermen made its first move toward restricting permits to specific
areas last week.

Ward 1 Alderman Bill Roche asked at the board's
March 11 meeting that the city solicitor look into whether residents
near the Sullivan Square T stop could have specially designated permits
that would keep commuters from poaching spots in front of homes.

"I know that's controversial," Roche said, "but you have to think of these residents."

Alderman-at-Large
Dennis Sullivan suggested the proposal could be expanded to Davis
Square, which also struggles with commuter parking issues.

"I'm
guilty," he said. "I park my car behind the (T) station and hop on the
train. I think it needs to be expanded to other parts of the city."

The item was approved.
