At about 10:58 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, TUPD received a report of an assault with a dangerous weapon (gun). The incident occurred on Winthrop Street in the area of Chester Street. The incident involved one male suspect who brandished a firearm and pointed it at the victim.

Tufts PD and Medford PD responded, checking the surrounding areas for the described suspects, with negative results.

The victim, who is not affiliated with Tufts, was not injured and describes the suspect as:

Hispanic Male
300 Pounds
5’10 in Height

While victims of a crime are never to blame for criminal activity, TUPD would like to remind all to:

  • Be alert to your surroundings, reporting suspicious persons or circumstances to the Tufts Police immediately at 617-627-6911 or x66911 from a campus phone or call 911 for off-campus emergencies.
  • Travel with a friend if possible
  • Use the TapRide service via the app.
  • Program the Tufts Police emergency telephone number into your cell phone so you will be prepared in an emergency 617-627-6911.

This incident is being investigated by the Medford and Tufts University Police Departments.
