The Somerville High Boys Soccer team finished the season with a 9-5-3 mark and will await their tournament opponent on Thursday.

With a tournament berth all signed, sealed and delivered, the Somerville High boys soccer team finished out the regular season in style.

Pierre Rodriguez knocked down a pair of goals and freshman sensation Thayrone Miranda also added a tally as the Highlanders cruised to a 6-1 win over Whittier Tech in last week’s regular season finale.

The Highlanders, who finished the regular season at 9-5-3, will now await their next opponent when the Division 1 North seedings are announced on Thursday.

Also recording solid performances were Murilo Zanette and senior Aly Keita, who recorded a goal apiece.

Early in the first half, the Highanders grabbed a 1-0 lead as Rodriguez notched his first tally of the contest. Minutes later, Whittier Tech would tie the contest before the Highlanders regained control of the match.

“It was great because the seniors got to play,” said Scarpelli. “We’re starting to come together at the right time, and I’m very pleased with the effort that everyone contributed the older kids as well as the younger kids.”

Homero Morais, the Highlanders’ leading scorer, who has missed the past few games as a result of nagging injuries, is hopeful to be back come tournament time.

Miranda, who has filled in nicely for the injured Morais, is expected to see the bulk of the playing time should Morais miss any additional time.

“He makes a difference, even though he is only a freshman,” said Scarpelli. “He’s got great footwork and speed. He’s been a nice surprise, and we’ll certainly use him for sure.”
