This is a harebrained idea in my opinion. Unless a 16 or 17 year old is able to go into a voting booth for a local election and see their own name printed on the ballot for any municipal elective seat which they have secured the required number of signatures for, it should not happen.
Eighteen is the age we’ve set nationwide for adult responsibilities. People younger than that are not financially independent, mature, experienced, or educated enough to vote.
I’d say why certain local politicians are still pushing this gimmick is beyond me, but that would be a lie.
