A Quincy man was arrested the morning after he allegedly stabbed a Somerville resident during a party on March 17, according to a police report.

Somerville Police responded to a report of a stabbing at 284 Lowell St. at 10:59 p.m. March 17 to find a 21-year-old man stabbed twice in the chest. The victim, whose name was not released, was listed in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The victim's girlfriend provided police with the name of the suspect's girlfriend, leading them to identify him as Joseph Beaton, 25, with a listed address of 324 Old Cordwood Path, Duxbury. He was apprehended at his girlfriend's apartment in Quincy, where police also confiscated bloody clothing.

In an interview at Somerville Police Headquarters, the girlfriend said Beaton had stabbed the victim during an altercation and that she fled with Beaton to Quincy on the last Red Line train from Davis Square.

While being transported by police, Beaton made "certain spontaneous statements implicating himself in the assault from the previous night," according to the report.

After being booked by Quincy Police, Beaton was taken to Somerville Hospital for treatment of an injury to his hand.

Beaton is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
