With the quickness and agility of James Alphonse, the St. Clement football team cruised to a homecoming victory.

Alphonse rushed for 197 yards and also delivered a solid defensive performance with 12 tackles as the Anchormen cruised to a 28-14 win over Cathedral in Saturday’s match-up at Dilboy Field. The Anchormen improved to 3-3 overall and will face-off against Marian next week.

In the first quarter, the Anchormen grabbed an 8-0 lead as Alphonse blitzed to a 23-yard touchdown run before striking again in the second quarter. At their own 38, Alphonse broke free and blazed down the right side of the field for a 14-0 lead.

After Cathedral closed the gap within 14-6, the Anchormen erupted for a pair of third quarter touchdown runs Following a three yard plunge into the end zone by Michael Jules, Alphonse secured the win midway through the third quarter with a 40-yard run into the end zone en route to a 28-6 lead.

Cathedral added a score late in the third quarter, but the Anchormen’s defense fared solid en route to the win.
