A man who tried to break into a Somerville police officer’s home Sept. 23 was left with a swollen eye after the officer found the man on his porch dressed in a hooded sweatshirt over his head and wearing black gloves, police said.

Emanuel Lausana, 27, of 199 Pearl St., allegedly told Officer Michael Capasso, “You have arrested me in the past,” as they scuffled on Capasso’s porch. In an incident report, Officer Yves Jean Jacques said Lausana “had prior knowledge of the location of this officer’s home.”

Lausana was dressed in dark clothing to “disguise himself,” police said. He allegedly tried to pull the front door open and tugged on the inside door. Police said he lunged at Capasso when the officer opened his door.

Deputy Chief Paul Upton, a spokesman for the department, said there were no facts to indicate Capasso had been specifically targeted.

Capasso was first alerted to Lausana on his porch by Somerville Housing Authority Officer Michael Cabral Jr., the son of Acting Police Chief Michael Cabral. Cabral Jr. aided Capasso as he scuffled with Lausana, police said.

Lausana allegedly told officers, “If I wanted to break into the house I would’ve not used the front door, I would’ve gone through the window.”

He was arrested and charged with assault and battery, resisting arrest and attempt to commit a crime.
