As you know, attempting to change the infringement of air flight noise pollution on our livelihoods has been a passion of mine. I share with you today a long awaited Conference to be held here in Somerville.

A day-long conference that brings some of the world’s foremost airport impact experts and environmental health scientists together with interested citizens and policy leaders.

That conference is going to be held on Saturday, November 5 at the new Partners Healthcare facility at Assembly Square, Somerville.

Highlights, including agenda and presenters, are available at the eventbrite site linked in below.  We have built in time for conversation.  You are all invited to attend.  And please get the word out quickly as well to other community members who might be interested!

The event is free but attendees need to register online: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/airport-impacts-101-perspectives-on-environmental-health-tickets-28528867611

Unfortunately due to health I cannot attend the meeting, however I share my thoughts on this. It appears that on days that the winds appear favorable for Logan to use his runway, that the jets fly over the harbor and then follow above Bunker Hill to Sullivan Square. They then come above Somerville. Above lower Broadway, looking down at the “holding pattern” of vehicle. Above Winter Hill & Ball Square, Powderhouse Square above the boulevard and then nearing Powderhouse & Packard they make one of the splits into their actual route. Now remember while reading that the jets are “powered up” while in flight trying to reach it’s desired altitude.

Thus the question before addressing the noise issue is this; how much jet fuel emissions from the jet’s engines is falling down through the atmosphere landing on the ground?, Your house? People outside? In the schoolyards? etc. What height are they at flying above us?

The noise? decibel levels? from the jet engines powering up to make the climb? Even the noise from the jet engines whining as it approaches above your home. Then as the jets that fly straight towards Arlington, the roar continues on and then before the noise ends you hear a distant roar/rumble as though the jet went down.

Perhaps we could get an old U.S. Army C3 airplane, load it with Massport officials/hacks, put tem in parachute and fly over the aforementioned route and drop them along he way. Hopefully each one will get snagged on a tree or light pole and then they get snagged and get an 8 hour earful, they will have a better understanding of the situation. Just don’t get upset if they keep saying “what” when you talk to them.

Thank goodness this is being addressed. We can’t even have our windows open in the summer! 5:15 in the morning we get woken up by the planes coming in over our house, then you try to go to bed and fall asleep to the same thing. It is so frustrating and disruptive to what once was a peaceful neighborhood we lived in. I am grateful to see others are upset also…
