This past Sunday, the City of Somerville honored its military veterans, especially those who made the supreme sacrifice, by once again hosting its annual Memorial Day Parade, the largest in the Boston metro region.

The 2016 parade featured 21 performing groups, including new bands and performers such as The Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps from Nashua, NH; The Freedom Trail Band (first LGBT band to perform in the parade); OUTVETS, marching in honor of LGBT Veterans; and the Blues Brothers: Next Generation performing group.

As always, the parade also included a wide range of community and school groups, the popular specialty units of the Aleppo Shriners, and representatives of local veterans’, fire, and police units.

Several local officials also joined in the parade, paying tribute to those who served.

It was a nice parade this year, like every year. My favorite street event.
