Two Somerville teens were arrested Aug. 20 for allegedly attacking an 18-year-old man with chains and a windshield wiper on McGrath Highway.

The boys, ages 14 and 15, allegedly ran towards the victim as he waited for a bus on Washington Street under the McGrath Highway underpass. The driver of the car, a gray sedan with the back window punched out, yelled to people on the porch of a nearby residence to get in their house.

Somerville police gang unit officer Scott Whalen wrote in an incident report that the motor vehicle used in the attack has been used in other assaults this month.

One of the Somerville teens yelled at the victim as they ran after him, “I’m going to kill you,” police said. Police said the attackers caught up to the victim after he lost his sneaker at Boston Street and stopped to try and put it on.

The Somerville boys assaulted the victim with three and five foot long chains, police said. They were both arrested on McGrath Highway and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
