Somerville Songwriter Sessions at the Armory Cafe presents contemporary folk singer/songwriters in concert on the first Saturday of each month. The Armory Cafe features live music in an intimate setting, a menu featuring sandwiches, soups, desserts and coffees, and plenty of free parking.

Bethel Steele is an Americana-inspired singer-songwriter who calls Boston, Massachusetts home. Bethel’s smoky alto and playing style – which ranges from driving rhythm guitar to delicate finger-picking – evokes a wide range of emotions.

Jan Luby is known for her engaging, often riveting stage-presence as well as her voice full of passion, range and power. Her songs are evocative, lyrical and infectious personal stories. Her approach to songwriting ranges from socially relevant to irreverent, heartbreaking to humorous.

Beth DeSombre sings new songs that spring from old traditions, telling the stories of people and places along life’s crooked highways. Sing Out! Magazine describes her songs as “smart and uplifting … focusing on the quiet meaning to be found in ordinary life.” Christine Lavin calls her songwriting “wonderful,” and the folk-pop duo The Kennedys laud her “catchy melodies and insightful lyrics.” Beth’s second CD, At Home In This Town, was released in January 2011.

Award-winning Boston contemporary folk singer/songwriter and novelist Terry Kitchen’s songs are portraits of ordinary people and emotions, captured with extraordinary compassion, honesty and humor. He has released ten CDs of original music since the 1990s, and his songs have won the Mid-Atlantic and USA Song Contests and been runner-up in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

Kim Jennings is a Worcester-based folk songstress with an indie edge. Her latest album Here Now was nominated for Best CD in the 2014 Worcester Music Awards.
