Happy Birthday this week to some of our fans who are celebrating this week. We wish a big happy birthday to Nancy Curtatone, a busy lady with a husband who is mayor and four boys running around. We hope she has a great day for herself. Another local celebrating this Wednesday, the same as Nancy, is Michael Buckley, a great guy and family man here in the city. Best Day to another great Somerville guy who is well known here in the city, even though he lives in FLA. We wish Mike Berry the very best. A very nice guy. Happy birthday to Kevin Shackelford, who is also from a great Somerville family. Kevin is one of Somerville’s finest and we wish him the very best for his birthday. A good friend of ours who reads the paper online, Dr. Halim Ozgur Muslu, a specialist down in Georgia but who lived here in the city for awhile while attending medical school. We wish him the best and a big happy birthday. Happy birthday to the younger Mike Capuano, who is celebrating this week. Mike is like his father, very active here in the city. We wish him a good one. To all the others we are sure we missed who are celebrating this week, happy birthday. If you’d like us to extend birthday wishes let us know.

We know that one guy who has passed away would have celebrated his 92nd birthday this week. A true Somervillen, Mr. Fred Del Ponte. He was a good guy and friend to all he met. No matter who or what you were, he liked everyone. Then again, if he didn’t you’d know about it, which he would always say with a smile.

We finally got the answer to our question, who was Sylvester Baxter? The park along the Mystic River at Assembly Square was named after him a long time ago. It appears that Sylvester was the first Secretary of the Metropolitan Parks Commission, which was the first name of our present Department of Conservation and Recreation. We still say it should have been named after someone local, but at least we now know who he was. The dedication of the new under Wellington walking bridge was dedicated officially connecting Assembly Square to Ten Hills. A short and pleasant walk without dodging speeding cars, connecting two popular sections of the city.

We hear that if you like $20+ hamburgers then head over to Earl’s in Assembly Square. We will check it out and let you know. But we have to tell you, you can probably get two lobsters for that price along with baked potatoes at the Mt. Vernon Restaurant.

The new boxes for The Somerville Times are in, they were delivered last Friday, now the task remains of putting them in places where Somerville readers of The Times can get to them. Over the past few weeks we asked and we received some calls. We have taken the suggestions and are carefully looking over the city to see where we can add the boxes. We even have brand new ones for the squares and Assembly Square. Six of the boxes are different, but you’ll be able to recognize them as Somerville Times boxes.   By the end of this year we will have 45 boxes in the city and still over 100 other locations. We have even increased our print edition to accommodate them. Starting this week we will some of the boxes out there on the street, every week adding more and more. Have a suggestion? Call us at 617 666-4010 and let us know.
