It's graduation season and hundreds of 17 and 18-year olds are heading into their last lazy Summer before adult challenges and realities hit.

And there are other Somerville graduates who pursued their education through years of setbacks and numerous challenges.

Adult graduates at SCALE overcame oppression and challenges to graduate last week and move on to the next phase of their education. At Full Circle High School and Next Wave Junior High School, adolescents trying to recover from setbacks are taught in a therapeutic community.

Education and individual self-improvement are two ways we can rebound in this Great Recession. We need all hands, and minds, on deck to find solutions to today's problems.

Congratulations to all the graduates who struggled through adversity and tough times to help make Somerville a smarter, better place to live.
